You’ve gotta start somewhere

When I first started getting into digital photography in 2010, I annoyed my friends constantly by begging them to let me take their picture.  Having grown up as more of a “documentary” type photographer hobbyist, I didn’t have a lot of experience shooting people in a portrait type setting.  Honestly, I had zero clue of what I was doing.

Luckily, I had some friends willing to take a chance on me and my new fancy digital camera.  One such friend that comes to mind is my dear friend Nikki.  This girl made it easy on me- I mean she is a natural in front of the camera and so easy to work with.

Looking back, I do not cringe at these pictures as they were a stepping stone to my career.  Has my style, technique and equipment changed over the past 4 years- very much so!  I believe it’s important to reflect on where you have come and appreciate the growth that you made.   I’m so thankful for Nikki giving me a chance to pursue my dream of being a photographer.

To all you new photographers out there, don’t be scared to try.  Just grabbing a friend and doing an imprompt to shoot may be just what you need to get your creative juices going.  It’s a great time to try new things and not worry about losing face in front of a paying client because you may not be sure what you’re doing.  Every photographer has been there- at the bottom.  It’s makes us human. 🙂
