Dear beloved pets…

Dear beloved pets- Kona, Amos and Sonnie,

Since the birth of your little brother Charlie, your lives have been different.  We haven’t been able to go on as many walks and you’ve been cooped up in the house more than ever and I am sorry for that.  I want you to know that I wish I had more hours in the day so that I could give you all the exercise that you want and need and please know, we are doing our best.

When I shoo you from under my feet multiple times a day, know it’s not because I don’t want you around.  I know you’re worried and in tune with my stress levels and are trying to help in your own way.

When I repeatedly ask you to not constantly lick Charlie’s face, I’m not mad.  I just don’t need Charlie’s any more wet than it is from when he spits up.

In the middle of the night when I’m trying to calm an upset baby and I shush you from making noise by wagging your tail in when you come in the room, I know you’re not trying to wake him up.

Thank you for having patience with us as we learn how to be the best parents we can for Charlie and putting his needs first.  Thank you for your comfort in the wee hours of the night when Brett is sleeping and I’m feeding Charlie and you curl up next to me on the couch.  Thank you for keeping me company no matter what time of day it is.  Thank you being my silent support.  Thank you for making me smile even though I may be feeling overwhelming with trying to do it all.  You guys keep me in the moment and I appreciate it so much.

We’ve been through a lot together and I couldn’t imagine not having each one of you in my life.  You make our lives whole and I’m so grateful that Charlie gets to grow up with you in it.  He is already at ease with dog barking and when he sees you, he smiles and wants to pet you.  I know you guys are going to be great friends and protectors of our little man.  I hope you know how much I love you and love having you in our lives.  It’s hard to imagine our life without you in it.

Your favorite humans – Jackelyn, Brett and Charlie
